In Solidarity with Minnesota

We stand in solidairty with Minnesota and other ICE escalations.

The GEO stands in solidarity with the people of Minnesota, as well as all the individuals and communities that have been attacked, terrorized, and dehumanized by ICE and the federal government. We mourn the many migrants who have been brutalized and/or killed in ICE custody, with at least six reported deaths since the start of the year. We also mourn the murders of Keith Porter Jr., Renee Good, and Alex Pretti. We grieve alongside their loved ones.

It is clear that the federal government is sanctioning violence against our communities and acting with impunity. We must stand to protect our neighbors, and we cannot surrender our right to protest, movement, and defense. We stand in unwavering solidarity with those who have and will continue to stand up and fight back against the state-sanctioned violence by the United States government on our communities and loved ones.

We also stand with graduate workers at UIUC who are from communities harmed by ICE and encourage affected GEO members to reach out to GEO’s Solidarity Committee should they need any support from their union. Lastly, we call on the university to provide meaningful support to non-citizen workers and students.

To our community, stand strong together! We encourage our members to check on and build community with neighbors, as establishing those bonds lays the foundation for protecting each other.
