GEO Wins a Settlement for $1,240
What happened?
In the summer of 2024, GEO and the university agreed to incorporate pre-professional graduate assistants (PGAs) into the 2022-2026 Collective Bargaining Agreement. GEO delivered our copy of the signed agreement on August 8th, but the university failed to sign the agreement until August 27th, and didn't deliver a signed copy to GEO until August 30th. The university then improperly did not deduce dues from PGA members at the appropriate 2% rate in the September payroll period, claiming insufficient notice of a change in dues rates.
As a result, GEO filed two unfair labor practice charges and brought a grievance to abritration for failure to sign the PGA incorporation Memorandum of Agreement promptly, and for failure to assess dues properly.
On December 9th, 2025, the university agreed to pay GEO $1,240.52 in back dues, settling the arbitration and unfair labor practice charges.
